What does that mean?
It means Quality.
The homemade sort. The old-fashioned kind.
The type you can count on.

Did you know that if the product you are washing your skin with was not made with lye, it's not Real Soap?

That's right! The caustic alkali we call lye is REQUIRED to make
Real Soap.
The chemical reaction between lye and fats that creates soap is called Saponification.
During saponification, the lye is completely used up.

Once the batch has been hand cut into bars, they are left to cure so they can dry and harden and so that the pH gets to a range that's most beneficial to the skin.

So now you know:

If it wasn't made with lye, then it isn't Real Soap.
That's the truth.

My grandmother used to say that you can tell Homemade by its imperfections.
Whereas a factory relies on speedy machines that can be calibrated to make bars of exactly the same size, shape, and weight, over and over,
I make my Yucca Root Soap one batch at a time.

A batch yields 27 bars that, after curing, weigh more than 6 ounces each.

Once the lye and fats saponify, I pour the soap batter into the mold and make it as level as I can.  By hand.

In a day or two, I turn the slab of soap out of the mold and cut it into bars.  By hand.
As I wash each bar to round off the sharp edges, I lovingly infuse each one with Reiki.
And they cure in the fresh, dry Southwestern air for 3-4 weeks.

It takes a lot of time and effort to create Real Soap.
And it's SO worth it!

With love and care, I produce Real Soap that I believe my grandmother would approve of and enjoy.

And What is Reiki Anyway?

I'm a Reiki practitioner, and I infuse my soap with Reiki,
but what is that?

According to The International Center for Reiki Training:
"Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by laying on hands and is based on the idea that an unseen life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy."

I believe that by infusing each bar of my yucca root soap with Reiki energy,
I am passing along positivity and goodness to you every time you use it.

Why Yucca Root Soap?

Here in the southwestern USA, yucca plants are everywhere.
Picture
Native Americans used this versatile plant for everything from food, to baskets, to ropes and, yes, even soap! They dried the roots of certain species of yucca and pounded them into powder, which they mixed with water to make a foamy,
soap-like product to clean their hair and bodies, and their clothing.
Of course, science and progress being what they are, I make my soap using a different process than Ancient Peoples did.
My recipes are tried and true (first developed in 2006 and tweaked to perfection)
and there's yucca root in every bar.
I love that I am continuing a southwestern cultural tradition by using this native plant product in my soap.
I think you'll appreciate it, too!
